I'm going to have to say Ro's.
That's a tough one. Ryco had some great dialogue and a funny story, but I have to say Ro's custom work and innovative idea was top notch. Will all do respect to Ryco, I have to vote for Ro. Fantastic job gentlemen. And kudos to everyone involved in setting it up!
I thought they were both very creative. I'd give the edge to Ro in the aspect of cutting out props and his custom work. But overall, I felt that Ryco implemented the items on the to do list a bit better in his story, and made me laugh just a little harder.
Honestly, this is very tough, because both videos are extremely funny & imaginative, in fact almost equally so, but in different ways. Ryco's way of working the items into the story, & still making a story that was hilariously clever, was slightly better, but Ro's techniques for creating ingenious environments & props was slightly better, imho
I think to decide, I'll have to resort to considering which video was harder to make, & though it's not by a whole lot, mind you, I'll vote for Ro. Sorry Ryco, I sure did love your video too
This is tough, they are both very good in their own ways. Ryco somehow made a very consistent story out of those most random of items, whereas Ro's custom animation was very impressive. My vote will have to go to................Ryco!
The reason is because Ryco's dialogue was amazing and hilarious. Good work to both of you!
I agree...Ryco did a better job of actually incorporating Ludvig's random objects into his story...mine were used more as set dressing...except the dead cat of course...LOL I'll vote for Ryco...I can vote, right? ;-)
Ok, so my entry definitely pales in comparison to both of yours (that's why it's called: Ro vs Ryco and not Ro vs Ryco vs TNP). I'm a beta user, so I'm guessing I did something I wasn't supposed to, and now I don't have access to the Willie Songs... So pretend it starts with the Local Memory, and ends with "On The Road".
And until my computer settles from all the work, I don't have a vote. I wasn't able to watch the whole video of either... Ugh.

I must admit that all of your animations are frankly superb... but in a contest of sheer skiil I's going to have to go with Ryco. Sorry Ro but his synchronization of sound and dialouge is not matched by yours. Ro in a contest of physical humor you would most likley win but this is a contest of skill and sheer ability to create a good animation within givin guidelines and such. Very well done both of you but my vote goes to Ryco...

Hmmmm, synchronization of sound? There is no sound on the Willie theme. Oh well, whatever...but I do agree Ryco's has a much better and funnier story. Mine is more "Seinfeldian"..."about nothing". ;-)
Actually Jex was the first to make the characters come out of the stage with an animation he made almost a year ago called Kung Pow Chicken. MANY, even myself have used the concept since (my Postmastabeta vid from a long time ago). So.... sorry to say dj, but your concept wasn't as original as you thought. It's still a great effect and was well used by Ro in his contest entry.
Can't say I've watch more than one of DJ's animations...and it wasn't anything involving a computer. Although I'm a fan of Jexx's, I guess I missed that one from him...but I will be checking it out. Actually, my initial inspiration was the animation "Animator vs. Animation" which can be found on YouTube. Although the videos are completely different, after seeing that one I knew I wanted to do something where computer characters took on a life of their own.
I liked Ro's because it was very funny and the extra special touches made it stand out amongst the two. No reason to disqualify anyone as this is just a friendly contest and all great ideas come full circle meaning if it's good enough eventually someone else is bound to follow suit.

Sorry DJ, that's silly. It's like saying Ryco is disqualified for using a bar fight (I did a Willie bar fight before) and trivia in his video (pop-up video). That would be ridiculous.
It's a friendly contest, there's nothing really to win.
I am giving this to Ryco. Two different approaches. Ryco had the best story line and imagery; amusing and entertaining. Ro... better FX with a couple zingers but really didn't go anywhere after the jump out of the computer warp. Both were really good, but when it comes down to personal tastes and storytelling via anim, I lean to Rycos rendition.
Boy did I pick the wrong weekend to be away from the computer!
Ro vs Ryco is in full swing. Loved everything I've seen so far, and hope to see more.

Both animations are really great and original. Loved them both. As a staff member, I feel I shouldn't vote on this one. I don't know why, it feels strange. But we will make sure to promote the contest some more once the vote is done.
Ro's animation was really great and fantastic but i enjoyed ryco's a little better. Ro did a very hard animation 2 take photos of a computer and the 2 put back on. and the clip art was very well cut.

Oh, what a grim day it is for me. The day where I should probably figure out who I vote for. After watching both Ro and Ryco's animations numerous times, I still couldn't figure out who to vote for. So I made my gf help cuz she's not familiar with either and not partial to anyone's personality and hasn't watched any of either's videos.
Ro's animation was so clever and brought Willie "out of the box", Ryco's animation was an adventure. The work that was put into either is outstanding. You can tell just by comparing their load times to my animation.
To me they were 50/50. Their strengths are so different. If I had a specific point to vote on it may be easier than which video is better.
That's why Cyndi was brought into it. And being the lady of the house, she gets final decision ;)
She also liked both but decided that my vote was for RoTV. She said that it was easier for her to watch and that it kept a steadier, faster pace that didn't let your attention drift (not to say she wasn't glued to Ryco's too).

lol. Yup Tad, he is right about my vote (although, at the time I had no idea who to choose, and hence; why Cyndi had to do it for me). I'm pretty sure Ryco agrees with my decision on the removing the 2 votes. I'm sure he wouldn't have minded keeping them though. That's why Ryco wanted it in the forum and not by views and recommendations. It's too easy to fake accounts.
It was hard, Ryco was the first person who's video I really liked (Falling Down), and helped me realize the potential of this site. That was even before I knew how to recommend (which reminds me...) and Ryco is probably the person I talk to the most now.
Ro was the guy who helped me figure this site out and encouraged me to keep animating. He's kind of a mentor to me (probably unknown to him).
But here's my bias.
Going through my favorites list I realized that Ludvig II is on it more than anyone else...
How about that? A Canuck like me is my favorite. GOh Canada!

Here's my stance on the whole 2 pt. deduction incident...
Tadple and LEO are saying that when a person creates a "phoney" account just to let their favorite animation win, that those two fake votes should count?! How can somone vote if they have ZERO movie views? How'd they watch the animation? If those were legitimate votes, those two users should say something or at least make an animation to prove that they actually exist!
LEO... you are a huge Ryco sheep. I bet if this was a perfect world in your eyes, Ryco would be awarded 2 pts. and Ro would be deducted 2 pts., because TNP "cheated" and, and, and, because Ryco's just better ok...

I appreciate the kind words I've read here...especially yours TNP. I think most would agree that I do try to help out other animators when they ask. This forum thread is crazy. I haven't been posting (mainly due to some "hate mail" it seems to generate for me) but I do check in and read it a lot...several times a day. I think its great the Community has taken such an interest. I hope at the very least it spawns a lot of creativity here at GoAnimate. Special thanks to my supporters in this contest...and to my friends here at GoAnimate. I'm very surprised at how close it actually is...thought I'd have been blown completely out of the water by now...lol. I know I already voted for Ryco but I gotta say I REALLY loved TNP and Ludvig's entries...they both cracked me up...my only criticism would be shouldn't Kenny Rogers have shattered when he was hit? I mean, with all that plastic in his face? Just a thought...lol.

Thanks to Ryco for the recommend! Votes are cool, but making the animation (and squashing Kenny Rogers) was the most fun! And Ro you're right, Kenny's head probably should of shattered. Of course I'm amazed it doesn't shatter whenever he tries to smile :)

alright this thread is having a lot of comments my eyes hurt. i hope this animate-off does contineu and people make an annual thing. cause if we do this next year more people will know about it and more people will participate.
hmmmmph I find this competition thingy a bit too serious.
I don't know the origins for the competition as this thread doesn't explain it.
It's good to have competition to a degree because it promotes creation and pushes the imagination- but sometimes it can be a bit egotistical. I find this is reflected more in the replies to the animations. Such as people rating one animator-without even viewing the "opponent's" work. That is unfair! and plain silly.
Anyway it's a competition! and I have viewed both excellent animations. I don't want to choose between them but I have to go with with RO as I found it very creative for the characters to leave the pc. This was an idea I was going to use in an upcoming video. He did it very creatively and it looked flawless. Well done BOTH animators.
To enlight you LWAZANA, Ludvig II created the contest a while back (on a different thread) to determine if Ro or Ryco was the better animator. Ludvig II established a set of improv rules...
This can only be decided with an old fashioned 'Animate-Off'
Here are the rules:
- Must use the Willie Nelson theme
- Include three backgrounds of 3 different world monuments (one a night shot)
- Incorporate the following props: a roll of toilet paper, a dead cat, a cheeseburger, a purple 57' Packard and an exploding jar of mayonnaise
- Text bubbles: Use the phrases 'Quite frankly my dear..', 'Okie-dokie Artichokie' and 'Oh my God! You've killed Kenny!" at least once.
- Competition ends some Tueday (in the future as of yet undetermined), midnight GMT.
- All Challengers welcome.
The idea was brought up a while back, and Ludvig II helped the contest take off...
Actually.... it was Skits who started the ball rolling. She created a 'Ro vs Ryco' animation an invited eveyone to vote. I commented saying I couldn't vote between them, and on a spur of the momement whim left the comment about an Improv, dead chat, exploding mayo, etc.
It was a joke that took on a life of it's own, since everyone saw it could be a bit of fun.

there are two things that need to be done or concidered in the future:
1. consider having an annoymous vote, because I have noticed that things can get and have got a little hairy between ryco vs ro supporters or ro vs ryco supporters. maybe everyone catts their votes in a private message on Ludvig II's page, or whoever started the competition.
2. that we check all those who have voted because as Thing and someone else pointed out, some users have been created that haven't watched any vids, and haven't done anything except vote on this forum.... Suspicious.

I just realized I never officially cast my vote. Like everyone I had a hard time deciding. Since the judging criteria was set to :"Does it really matter??" I chose the following arbitrary criteria.
1 - Best use of edible fungi
2 - Best use of rule props in a bar fight
3 - Best death of a cat
4 - Best death of a County Singer (pure arbitrary rules)
5 - Best use of 'static screen' by animator with a cuddly avatar
6 - Best use of Willie Nelson song... and Stonehenge (did I mention purely arbitrary rules?)
Then I rolled a dice. It came up 3. (Curses, I can't win even with stacked odds...)
Although I being drowned, disembowelled, packed with nitrates, wrapped and entombed IS pretty cool, it just doesn't have the 'eye-popping' appeal of a good scanner slam.

Thanks to skits for starting all this, TNP for his promotion video, and of course Ludvig with his comments that no one ever thought would be taken seriously. This is awesome, I hope to see more competitons across the site in the near future. This was the most fun I've had since I started on here. Hopefully Nicolas and Alvin will see how much attention this user made contest has gotten and start coming up with actual goanimate contests for everyone. Thanks to all my fans, with out them I wouldn't have had all the votes.
And I have made a little animation with the character mashups since I have won.
CONGRATULATIONS, RYCO!!! A well-deserved title...a well-fought battle. For the most part, it was a lot of fun. I'd be interested in entering the next contest. I was a little busy during the last one, so I couldn't enter. Anyways, Jexx vs. RandomGirl would be quite a battle... Not sure who would emmerge the victor.
I'm game, but it will be a week or so before I can work on it. I have another project in the works right now. But I would def. love the opportunity to take Jexx down!

Lol! (Although tonnes of them did, so great job, TNP!) Yeah... I think we need to ask Alvin and Nicolas and such to see what we can do about voting... i thinkwe need to vote to them, not on a forum, in case users are created for the sole purpose of voting!

Also the staff is working on a feature that will allow us to create contests easier amongst the users, I think it will be released soon.
I'm not so sure I'm the right person to decide the content of the contest though. Let's leave it up to Ludvig. He seems to come up with some pretty good stuff.
